Saturday Apr 06, 2024

Saturday Apr 06, 2024

Dave, Devan, Michael and Ryan decide to try out some untested but I'm sure perfectly safe recreational drugs, spend hours in sensory deprivation tanks, and hallucinate some not-weird-at-all imagery before mutating into prehistoric beings while they discuss Ken Russell's 1980 body horror film "Altered States."  The crew discuss this difficult to comprehend but fascinating to experience motion picture, as they explore the rapid fire dialogue, the strong performances from William Hurt (in his debut film role) and Blair Brown, and the striking visuals that permeate the film.  They also discuss other classic cinema that both heavily inspired and were heavily inspired by it.  If you've seen Altered States, let us know what you think of it in the comments section.  Thank you as always for listening!  Stay scared!

Saturday Mar 23, 2024

Dave, Michael and Ryan step aboard a derelict space station filled with facehuggers, chestbursters, and xenomorphs, and think to themselves, "There's something very familiar about all of this," as they go back to their roots and discuss the newly released teaser trailer for the upcoming Fede Alvarez film, "Alien: Romulus."  The crew talk about what stood out to them in the one minute teaser, including the look of the sets, the sounds, and the quick, chilling shots dispersed throughout the brief trailer.  They also discuss their theories of what the movie could be about, considering what is in the trailer and also the Roman mythology behind the film's title.  We thank you so much once again for listening.  Let us know what you think about the trailer and if you're excited for a new Alien film.  Stay scared!

Dave, Devan, Michael and Ryan spend a few wild nights at the Overlook Hotel and throw back a few cold ones with Jack Torrence, chase each other down the halls in tricycles, and make plenty of bad decisions as they party in Room 237 while discussing Mike Flanagan's 2019 film, "Doctor Sleep," a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror masterpiece, "The Shining."  The crew talk about how well Flanagan's film not only lives up to the original classic but how well it stands on its own.  They also talk about the many intense, thrilling, and disturbing sequences in the movie, as well as the excellent performances all around, especially from Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson.  We hope you really enjoy this episode!  Thank you as always for listening!  Stay scared!

Saturday Feb 17, 2024

Dave, Devan, Michael and Ryan very briefly take jobs as loan officers at a bank, deny a gypsy an extension on her mortgage and end up getting cursed with blood geysers shooting out of their mouths, bugs getting vomited on their faces, and getting thrown across a room during a séance as they discuss the unrated director's cut version of Sam Raimi's 2009 film "Drag Me to Hell."  The crew examine the many funny, grotesque, Evil Dead-like moments spread throughout the film that make it as humorous as it is horrifying.  They also discuss the solid performances in the movie, particularly Alison Lohman, who does a great job selling the horror-comedy aspects of the film while getting put through the Raimi gauntlet.  Thank you as always for listening!  Stay scared!

Lovecraft inspired films, 1986's "From Beyond," directed by Stuart Gordon, and 2019's "Color Out of Space," directed by Richard Stanley.  The crew examine both films, how well Gordon and Stanley did in bringing Lovecraft's visions and ideas to life, and the effectiveness of the mysteries and horror within the films that permeate Lovecraftian lore.  We hope you enjoy this Double Be-header episode!  Thank you for listening!  Stay scared!
